Client: ConAgra

Problem:
ConAgra, a leading salt manufacturer, has the challenge of shipping a very heavy product to their customers, and is unable to ship a full truckload of salt before they weigh out the trailer. So, ConAgra often chooses to ship by rail in order to lower their shipping costs. But, shipping 50 lb. and 100 lb. bags of salt by rail can be challenging, with each bag creating an underhang between each pallet.

These underhang voids often lead to the unfortunate effect and high costs of in-transit damage.

Solution:
Here is a load diagram of AAR-approved DPC dunnage products solving this common challenge for bagged products in rail transit.

Rail - Bagged Product

Fill-M5 Void Fillers are used to secure the product and alleviate side-to-side shifting in transit. Protecto-Cell Panels are used as separator sheets between double-stacked pallets to prevent the wood pallet from rubbing a hole in the bags of salt that the pallet sits on. They are also used between each row so the bags of salt do not rub against each other, creating holes in the bags themselves. Protecto-Cell Panels are also used in conjunction with air bags in the doorway of the railcar to prevent front-to-back shifting and help ConAgra prevent the high-costs of in-transit damage.
